The Agrarian Kitchen Eatery, New Norfolk
The Agrarian Kitchen Eatery, around half an hour from Hobart and en route to Strahan if you're taking the western-wilds journey, is definitely worth the trip. The venue, which is housed in a former mental asylum, is genuinely unique, and the dining room, is warm and inviting, with plenty of natural light, large tables, and custom-made chandeliers suspended from the pressed-metal ceiling.
Chef Rodney Dunn's potato cakes (local potatoes deep-fried in a sourdough batter) have a cult following and are the perfect introduction to the rest of the menu, which can't go wrong. The menu is subject to change depending on seasonal availability and produce availability. Expect delicacies like house-made burrata paired with a salad of local Meyer lemons marinated in Ashbolt Farm olive oil and seasoned with house-dried pepper flakes.
