Ikaria Bondi, Sydney

In the heart of Bondi Beach, a breezy new Greek meze bar called and inspired by the little Aegean island of Ikaria has opened its doors.

Joaquin Saez (Alberto's Lounge, Cho Cho San, co-owner of La Palma) and Emily Abay (Alberto's Lounge, Cho Cho San, co-owner of La Palma) are bringing a taste of the Mediterranean coast to Sydney's own stretch of coastal splendour. You are cordially invited to enter and embrace the Ikarian way of life, which is centred on celebration, happiness, and pleasure.

The design was overseen by fashion photographer Abay, who created a serene vision of archways, whitewashed walls, and neutral-toned tiles, all framed by sweeping vistas across the ocean. To be sure, it has a festive feel to it.

Head Chef Robert Young (Quay, Born by Tapavino, the UK's Restaurant Martin Wishart) is in charge of the kitchen, which is serving a share-focused menu infused with Mediterranean flavours.

For its size, Ikaria's wine selection is broad, with largely European labels, a few local brews, and Greece's Mythos lager. If you really want to feel like you're on vacation, the cocktail menu, which features both classic and unique drinks, will seduce you.

Every Tuesday through Sunday from 3–5 p.m., you can immerse yourself even more in the festive dream at the bar's dedicated Aperitif Time, which features a variety of happy hour drink specials.
