      Sinharaja is a World Biosphere Reserve since 1978 and UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. Located quite close to Ratnapura with approaches from other directions as well, this dense rain forest has an amazing variety of flora and fauna, and this has caught the attention of scientists as well as nature lovers who make excursions into the jungle to explore and appreciate its many natural wonders. Among these are cool waterfalls, rushing streams and crystal clear freshwater streams. The entire reserve is an ecological treasure box, containing on fewer than 830 species of endemic flora and fauna, including numerous rare species of trees, bird life, reptiles, and insects.

      Day 2: Udawalawe National Park - Negombo/Colombo

      Discover the majestic Udawalawe National Park in this unforgettable safari where you can experience an up-close encounter with Sri Lankan elephants and many other species of animals. The park was created as a place of safety for the wildlife displaced as a result of the building of the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River, which is now a part of the park and an important source of water for the animals living within it. The park has an annual rainfall of 1500mm, mostly between the months of October to January and March to May. If you desire to see the best of Elephants, then Udawalawe is where you should be heading for. It is considered as one of the best destinations to see herds of Asian Elephants, both adults and young, an estimated 500 elephants in herds of 100, as they roam through the park, feeding on the scrub jungle, marshes and grasslands.
