    In 2010 the renovation works were completed and as a result, Athens obtained a marina of international specifications designed to satisfy the needs of the owners of luxurious yachts.

    On the way to Cape Sounion, we’ll enjoy the views of Piraeus, of Saronic Gulf and its islands and after crossing some Athens resorts we’ll first stop in the famous Vouliagmeni Lake. This charming tiny lake was formed millions of years ago just a few meters away from the coast.

    Driving by seaside resorts and villages enjoying the beautiful scenery we'll reach Cape Sounion, where we'll have time to visit the archaeological site of the Temple of Poseidon, overlooking the Aegean Sea. After the visit, we'll have a short coffee break.

    Cape Sounion, the southernmost tip of Attica, is a significant strategic point, whence the city-state of Athens controlled the sea passage to the Aegean Sea and Piraeus, the central port, as well as the Lavrion peninsula, comprising the rich silver mines thanks to which Athens emerged as a leading power in the 5th century BC.
    All the above facts show why Athens was so interested in the Sounio area and financed the construction of the Temple of Poseidon.

    Lavrio was famous in Classical antiquity for its mines of silver and lead which was one of the chief sources of revenue of the Athenian state. The metallic silver was mainly used for coinage and the lead for the joints of the buildings. Nowadays, Lavrio is a small town with a port for small cruise-ships and ferries connecting the mainland to some of the islands.

    Stop At: Ancient Theater of Thorikos, Thoricus 190 01 Greece

    Thorikos was an industrial ancient settlement just north of the ancient mining town of Lavrio. Here lies an almost-forgotten archaeological site where the oldest known stone theater in existence still stands proudly. The theater of Thorikos dates to the end of the Archaic era (late 6th C B.C.) and had an impressive seating capacity of 4,000 people.

    Kalyvia Thorikou village, surrounded by vineyards, olive-groves and thousands of pistachio trees, is famous for its local dairy products and traditional grill houses.
