And how can someone not visit Emporio. Once the center of commercial activity, it is the largest settlement of Santorini with a definite medieval flavor and well-preserved traditional houses. Standing true to its name, the distinctive Red Beach features a remarkably imposing odd formation of red volcanic rock dramatically contrasting the magnificent blue of the sea – a truly unique sight to behold.

Here is one of the most significant prehistoric settlements of the Aegean. Akrotiri had developed into a major city before it was covered in ash by volcanic eruptions. However, the ash has preserved structures and their contents allowing the visitor to marvel at this wonder of antiquity.

Perched on the summit of the highest mountain of the island (600 meters above sea) and dating back to 1711, it is a place of great historical interest and indeed a rewarding one in terms of stunning views beyond description.
