Puccini e la sua Lucca” officially started its activity in Lucca in 2014. Andrea Colombini, the artistic director, has strongly wished that the name of Giacomo Puccini was indissolubly linked to the town where the great Maestro was born on the 22nd December 1858. Recitals, opera selections, special concerts (“The Three Tenors”, “Puccini’s heroines” and many others): all in the most beautiful and stunning Basilica in the very core of Lucca (San Giovanni), all at the same time, all sporting great nationally and internationally renown singers and pianists. Everytime with a different cast of singers and different programmes, in order to give the audience the greatest possible spectrum of the great immeortal music of Giacomo Puccini. A great occasion to appreciate the music of the greatest Composer in the world, in the town where he was born and lived, in one of the most beautiful italian churches. The concerts took place in the Oratorio di San Giuseppe al Museo dell Cattedrale di Lucca, in the Church of San Giovanni (the official seat of the Festival) and in the Church of Santa Maria dei Servi. In the first 10 years of activity, the festival presented concerts every single day of the year. In its global activity, the Festival globally involved 128 soloist singers, 4 piano accompanists, 3 symphony orchestra in residence and three choirs. The Lucca Philarmonic Orchestra, the present orchestra in residence, has a steady structure of 62 musicians and include up to 113 musicians when larger productions are staged. The three choirs have a global of 120 singers. Since its start, the Festival has had more than 1,000,000 spectators: 90% of this figure was represented by foreigners (not Italian). The average increase of the ticket sale per year is reckoned around 20%. The Festival website reached 10,000 average counted daily visits.
