He was the Prime Minister of Portugal and had a leading role in multiple reforms that resulted in economic prosperity of Portugal. He also was a leader of Lisbon reconstruction effort after the city was severely damaged by the earthquake in 1755.

Made from an ancient variety named Arinto it was once the only white wine made in Portugal.
