Private Coffee Tour with War Victims: Learn All About Coffee & Reconciliation

Despite Granada’s proximity to Medellin —1.5 hours by car—, it was one of the towns most severely affected by the war with the FARC in Colombia, which lasted more than 60 years and ended only recently.

In this coffee tour we want to show you not only the beautiful process of coffee production but also the resilience of the people of this region and their process of reconciliation with FARC ex-combatants. In addition, you will learn about diverse agricultural initiatives undertaken by local farmers, many of which were direct victims of the internal conflict that raged through the country.

You will visit different places including a war museum, a coffee farm property of a war victim, a coffee shop, and the town itself.

A coffee tasting at the coffee shop using different methods is also part of the tour.

This tour is a combination of hope, history, nature, coffee, delicious traditional food and most importantly, the people that are the main protagonists of this spectacular tour.

      Stop At: Granada, Antioquia, Colombia

After we pick you up at your place of stay, we drive east of Medellin for about 90 minutes on a road surrounded by an breathtaking landscape.

Our first stop is a cozy coffee shop in the town center.

This coffee shop is part of the peace foundation that we have partnered with. As we try coffee brewed using different methods, we start with a detailed description of the town and the war that was waged in it including the different factions that fought —legal and illegal—, so you have a better understanding of what you will see in the museum and understand what farmers in the region went through, but also how good the current situation is and how much their lives have improved.

Regarding our coffee tasting event, we also explain how coffee is tasted in the different parts of the mouth and we get to try the "Le Nez du Café", a french kit with 36 scents related to coffee to have a better understanding of how a professional coffee taste is carried out.

      Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Salon anymore, a 23-109,, Cra. 20 #2363, Granada, Antioquia, Colombia

"Salon del nunca mas" is a museum dedicated to the hundreds of murdered victims and the thousands forced to leave their homes during Colombia's internal conflict.

In this place you will learn the history of why, what, how and when all this confrontation happened, and how it developed in a town known to be always peaceful. There will be also an explanation for Colombia's internal conflict in general, since what happened in this town is just a sample of what millions of colombians went through all over the country.

Our local guides are part of the association of Granada victims, so who would be better suited than them to walk us around this small but moving and important museum.

By taking this tour you are contributing to the people who work towards a sustainable peace by improving the income of local guides, as part of the money goes to them as well as to the museum and victims of Granada association.

      Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

      Stop At: Granada, Antioquia, Colombia

After visiting the museum we make our way to a coffee farm, owned by a victim of the internal conflict.

We will talk about the past 10 years of peace which this region was finally able to accomplish, and about his personal experience of living this process in his farm and how this has transformed the lives of farmers in Granada.

We will pick coffee beans from the trees, depulp, wash, ferment and dry the beans in his farm, and drink his amazing premium quality coffee as we talk with him and his beautiful family about coffee and life and appreciate the amazing nature and scenery from his farm.

You can buy their coffee, it is amazing and it comes with unforgettable memories of this experience as well.
