In November 1919, the Cathedral Square was renamed the Square of 1905. They called it so in memory of the events of October 14, 1905. On that day, a political strike took place in Yekaterinburg, in which railway workers, workers of the Upper Iset plant, the Yates plant and the Zlokazov factory participated. As a result, the prayer service in the Cathedral in honor of the manifesto of Nicholas II’s “Towards the Russian People” turned into a rally with the participation of Yakov Sverdlov. The rally was broken up by the authorities, as a result of which two people were fatally injured and another 14 were injured. In 1930, the Cathedral blew up, and at the same time destroyed the marble pedestal. At about the same time, tram lines were laid across the square and a granite tribune was installed. In 1957, the rostrum was reconstructed and a monument to Lenin was erected. It was on this rostrum that local leaders always stood at particularly important parades. The square is not covered with asphalt, like most squares and streets, but with pavement. It is curious that for the first time the square was paved with stone blocks in the 19th century.
