Returning to the modern era, the library was rebuilt and officially opened in October 2002. The only known free-standing column in Roman Egypt which was not composed of drums is one of the largest ancient monoliths and one of the largest monolithic columns ever erected.

There’s an interesting story about discovering this necropolis, a donkey accidentally fell into the access shaft.
