      Peterhof was founded in the 1714 at the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland, in 29 kilometers from Saint-Petersburg.

      The idea to create the park and palace ensemble, design of fontains and cascades belongs to Peter the l the Great. After diplomatic visit to Versailles, Peter the l masterminded to create park and palace complex which leaves behind the residence of French kings. The gala opening of Peterhof happened in 1723.
      We will visit the principal imperial residence - Peterhof Grand Palace. It is the main building of the ensemble of upper gardens and Lower park. Initially the palace was quite modest, designed in “Peter’s baroque” style, but then in the middle of the XVIII century, by order of the daughter of Peter the l empress Elizabeth, the palace was rebuilt in the luxurious “Elizabeth’s baroque” style by Russian architect of Italian origin Rastrelli. In the palace you will see Peter the l oak study, Throne room, Audience hall, Chesme room, Dancing hall, Blue drawing room, Partridge drawing room and Western and Eastern Chinese studies.
