Lengerke's Way "On the trail of a visionary"

Colombia Trails invites walkers to walk El Camino de Lengerke in Santander Colombia along ancestral paths paved in 1850 by the visionary Geo Von Lengerke, pioneer of international trade in Colombia.

It is the opportunity to:
-tour the largest organic coffee farm in Colombia and one of the most expensive beans in the world,
-live the experience of walking through the Chicamocha Canyon, one of the longest and deepest in Colombia,

    Day 1 - Arrival and reception in Bucaramanga

    Arrival at the Palonegro International Airport and transfer to the city of Bucaramanga. Free time to get to know the city and shop.

    Day 2 - Visit to the Hacienda El Roble and the Chicamocha Canyon at the Mesa de los Santos

    Visit one of the largest organic coffee plantations in Colombia, coffee tasting Mesa de los Santos one of the finest in the world and tasting the typical local cuisine. Visit the Chicamocha Canyon one of the deepest and longest in the world

    Day 3 - Section I: Lengerke Los Santos Road - Jordan - Villanueva

    The walk begins in the municipality of Los Santos (1602 masl) along a cobbled road built by the German Geo Von Lengerke in 1850, descends meandering the majestic Chicamocha Canyon (one of the deepest in the world) until reaching the bottom and Pass the Chicamocha River along the Lengerke Bridge arriving at the municipality of Jordan (425 masl), a mysterious town with few inhabitants, but with a lot of history of ancestor adventures that passed through there and a rich natural heritage. Then, you climb up the other side of the canyon to reach the top of the mountain in the so-called Mirador de Villanueva (1450 masl).

    Day 4 - Section II: Lengerke Villanueva Road - Guane - Barichara

    Following in the path of Lengerke this section begins in the municipality of Villanueva (1450 meters above sea level) through the highest part of the immense Chicamocha Canyon admiring the majesty of the rugged mountains to continue on a moderate descent to Guane (885 meters above sea level) colonial-style town of the 16th century where time stopped, visiting its most precious treasure the Paleontological and Archaeological Museum with pieces that keep the ancient history of the formation of the world and representative elements of the Guanes indigenous tribe settled in these lands before the Spanish conquest will arrive .

    Day 5: Section II: Lengerke Road (Guane - Zapatoca)

    The adventure along the Lengerke Road is restarted in Guane until you reach the Lengerke Bridge over the Paso de Ruedas in the Suárez River (400 meters above sea level) built in 1872. Subsequently, you follow the steep and cobbled road for a large part of the journey until you reach The municipality of Zapatoca (1730 masl) constituted as a population in 1743, was one of the two settlements in Colombia of Spanish Sephardic Jews after being expelled from Spain in 1492.

    Day 6: Dedicated to the walker: encounter with the Self - Mind and Body

    After traveling the first part of the Lengerke Road, walkers will discover why Zapatoca is a happy town. At Sindamanoy Hostel you will immerse yourself in a unique wellness adventure to relax, detoxify and activate the body with ancestral practices that will allow physical recovery and expand your mind with a new experience of inner knowledge. In the afternoon, they will share with the community of Zapatoca, crossing its streets, knowing its historical heritage until reaching the Cemetery and visiting the tomb of the German Geo von Lengerke. In the evening there will be an encounter with Lengerke in a gathering around a glass of wine made in Zapatoca in the company of historians, who will tell the contribution of this visionary to the region and Colombia.

    Day 7: Section IV: Lengerke Zapatoca Road - Magic Mountain

    After recovering forces in Zapatoca (1743 meters above sea level), the Lengerke Trail is resumed to travel a section of the path that leads to the Cuchilla del Ramo and then enter one of the Civil Society Nature Reserves in the mountains of Zapatoca (1850 meters above sea level) ) one day before the crossing through the Serranía de Los Yariguíes National Natural Park. The experience in the Magic Mountain reserve begins with the encounter with the typical gastronomy of the region. During the day the hosts will share ancestral activities of reflection and connection with nature amid the silence and sounds of the mountain. Awakening environmental awareness, a real surprise.

    Day 8: Section V: Lengerke Nogales Road - San Vicente de Chucurí

    The experience on the Lengerke Trail changes radically, a journey from the Magic Mountain is undertaken to reach the highest point (2500 meters above sea level) and start the tour of the Serranía de Los Yariguíes National Natural Park in slight descent until reaching the municipality of San Vicente de Chucurí (685 masl). Much of the route is made inside dry and humid tropical forests along roads that conserve the cobblestones built in 1850 by Geo Von Lengerke and the main route of its commercial activities. The protected area is clearly distributed, in the Eastern slope influenced by typical elements of the Northeast Andes and the Western slope by elements of the Middle Valley of the Magdalena River.

    Day 9: Visit Hacienda Montebello - Topocoro Reservoir

    To end the adventure, visit the Hacienda Montebello, one of its most famous estates built by Geo Von Lengerke on the way to reach the Magdalena River, the main means to reach the Atlantic Sea and the basis of commercial exchanges. Subsequently, we will visit the largest Colombia reservoir in warm weather to know its natural attractions. At the end of the afternoon the transfer to Bucaramanga final destination will begin to return to your places of residence.
