  • Day 1: Cusco - Soqma - Rayan

    Stop At: Cusco, Cusco, Cusco Region
    Begin your trek with an early-morning pick up from your accommodation in Cusco at approximately 06:30 hrs. We will head on a 1.5 hr car drive to Soqma – the starting point of the trek.
    Once in Soqma, we will gear up to begin hiking to our first stop, the Perolniyoc Waterfalls. This hike will take us along unshaded, narrow, zigzagging, dusty paths with steep uphill sections made of stone steps; all lasting approximately 1 hr. At the falls, you will have enough time to enjoy their magnificent 80 m of height and its surroundings, take photographs, and perhaps, maybe even take a dip.
    From the waterfalls, we will continue hiking up towards our lunch spot, the archaeological site of Perolniyoc, located on top of the waterfalls at 3,645 m.a.s.l. This hike will also be along unshaded, narrow, zigzagging, dusty paths with steep uphill sections made of stone steps; all lasting approximately 1 hr. While hiking uphill, you will begin to see the archaeological site just perching above the waterfalls.
    At the Perolniyoc archaeological site, you will have short-guided tour to explain its significance and existent theories of its use during the Inca times. After your short tour, we will sit down to enjoy our boxed lunch accompanied by the views of the surrounding mountain ranges.
    After lunch, we will continue to our campsite in Rayan. This will be approximately 45 minutes along gently- ascending terrain.

    Stop At: Sun Gate, Peru, Urubamba 08680, Peru
    Today will be by far the longest and most challenging day of the entire trail.
    After breakfast, we will begin the day’s hike towards the first pass. The hike will be gradually ascending along valleys of puna or high altitude , Andean landscapes. The first pass of Puccaqasa at 4,370 m.a.s.l. is sure to impress you with the outstanding views of the Sacred Valley and Ollantaytambo.
    From the Puccaqasa Pass, we will descend for approximately 30 minutes until our lunch spot.
    After lunch, we wil hike for another 2 hours (approximately) along puna until the next pass of Kuychicassa (4,457 m.a.s.l. ) . The landscape is arid yet beautifully- covered by ichu grass (Andean grass). The last stretch to the pass will be on a steep ascend for approximately 30 minutes.
    From the pass, the hike will continue to the famous Inti Punku (Sun Gate). This hike from the pass will be on a gradual descent for approximately 3 hours. Once at the Inti Punku, you will have time absorb the mystical vibes of this Sun Gate looking straight at the Sacred Mountain (Apu) Veronica.
    From the Inti Punku it will only be a 30 – minute downhill hike to our campsite at Choquetacarpo.

    Stop At: Ollantaytambo, Ollantaytambo, Sacred Valley, Cusco Region
    After breakfast, we will begin the day’s hike towards Cachicata. This first section of the hike will take approximately 1 hour along gently–descending terrain. Some section of the path will be steep, narrow and rocky!
    Once at Cachicata, you will have a brief explanation regarding the importance of this quarry. It is known that prior to the Spanish conquest, this quarry was used as the main source of stones for the town of Ollantaytambo and its archaeological site.
    From Cachicata, we will continue towards Ollantaymtabo. Along the way, we will see Inca chullpas (burial sites) and Inca archaeological remains. The hike to Ollantaytambo will take approximately 3 hours. The path will be on a gradual descent with some steep sections and narrow paths.
    In Ollantaytambo, we will grab lunch before taking the train to Aguas Calientes.
    In Aguas Calientes, you will be checked-in to your hotel accommodation and will have a free afternoon to enjoy Aguas Calientes town. We recommend spending some time in the town’s hot springs too!
    At dinner, we will re-group for dinner at a local restaurant.

    -Choquetacarpo: 3,600 m.a.s.l.
    -Cachicata: 3,500 m.a.s.l.
    -Ollantaytambo: 2,792 m.a.s.l.
    -Aguas Calientes: 2,000 m.a.s.l.

    Total hiking distance: 11 KM
    Duration: 6 hours

    Day 4: Machu Picchu Visit - Return to Cusco

    Stop At: Machu Picchu, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Cusco Region
    Your day will begin early in order to catch some of the first buses to Machu Picchu. The bus ride from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu is approx. 30 minutes and will be along a winding, uphill road.
    Once at the main gate, you will line up and enter Machu Picchu as soon as doors open (06:00 hrs). Along with your guide, you will walk around the main sector of Machu Picchu Citadel in your 2-hr guided tour.
    After your guided tour, you will be free to walk around in Machu Picchu until 12 noon. If you book either extra hike (Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu Mountain), you will head to your self-guided hike after your guided tour.
    At 12 noon, you will exit Machu Picchu and will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes. Once in Aguas Calientes, you will be required to pick-up your belongings from your hotel accommodation and head to the train station for your train back to Ollantaytambo. You will be required to be in the train station by no later than 30 minutes prior to your train departure.
    In Ollantaytambo, there will be a car transfer waiting with a sign with your name of it. This car transfer will drive you back to Cusco and drop you off at your accommodation in Cusco (or close by depending on accessibility).
