Stop At: Obidos Village, Obidos Portugal

Taken from the Moors in 1148 and having received its first charter letter in 1195, under the reign of D. Sancho I, the town of Óbidos was part of the dowry of countless queens of Portugal, among them, Dona Urraca de Castela (wife of D Alfonso II), Queen Santa Isabel (wife of D. Dinis), Filipa de Lencastre (wife of D. João I). With its whitewashed houses, symbol of the Arab presence in Óbidos, this village invites you to get lost in its narrow streets knowing its history and its most emblematic places, such as the Óbidos Castle, the Portal of the Óbidos Village. and the Church of Mercy.

    Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Castelo de Obidos, Rua Direita Santa Maria, Obidos 2510-079 Portugal

The Obidos Castle is one of the most beautiful castles I know in Portugal. One of the largest and best kept. The castle stands at a height of 79 meters above sea level, with an irregular rectangular (organic) plant, mixing elements of the Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline and Baroque styles, spread over two main areas: the Castelejo (current Pousada do Castelo, or Pousada de Óbidos) and the intra-walled neighborhood. The perimeter of the walls, reinforced by square and cylindrical towers, reaches 1,565 meters, completely covered by an adarve defended by a parapet. In some places, the walls are 13 meters high. The eastern section of the wall forms the core of the broader wall that surrounds the castle and the village, and extending on both sides southward for 500 meters, closes the perimeter at the so-called Torre do Facho. The access is made by four doors and two shutters, highlighting the Gate of the Village or Gate of Our Lady of Mercy, topped by an inscription, placed there by King John IV (1640-1656), and which reads: Virgin Our Lady was conceived without original sin. Inside is a chapel with balcony, lined with 18th century tiles.

    Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Miradouro do Suberco, Largo do Elevador Sítio do Promontório, Nazare 2450-142 Portugal

The Suberco Viewpoint, at 110 meters altitude, opens to one of the most beautiful maritime panoramas of Portugal. The long promontory that guards and protects the beach has at its end the Fort of S. Miguel Arcanjo. At 80 meters altitude it is the privileged viewpoint over the sea and Pedra do Guilhim, a rock beaten by the waves just in front. This is a great place for sport fishing, where the more adventurous challenge the sea that splashes the cliffs, inviting meditation. From the Barbican of the Fort, to the south, the view reaches far horizons and the village gains a new dimension; to the north, you discover the vast sandy beach of Praia do Norte. Beautiful and unknown, surrounded by dunes and pine forests, protected to the south by the promontory, which at its base hides a small natural cave - the Forno d´Orca.

    Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Nazare, Nazare 2450-065 Portugal

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazareth is located in the main square of the city, in Sítio da Nazaré. It is a very important temple, totally dedicated to the patron saint, Saint of Nazareth. It is there that a great party is held in commemoration of the day the saint supposedly appeared, 8 September. The church dates from the seventeenth century and was built by King Fernando, to keep the image of the virgin, after the growing pilgrimage to the Chapel of Memory or Hermitage of Memory.

    Duration: 30 minutes

    Stop At: Forte de Sao Miguel, 39_ 36.250' N, 009_ 5. 083' W, Nazare 2450-076 Portugal

St. Michael the Archangel Fort is located on a rocky cliff, on its way to Praia do Norte, in the picturesque village of Nazaré, Portugal. This fortress was erected to protect the successive attacks on the beach by Algerian, Moroccan and Norman pirates. The most recent improvement works, whose date is stamped on the door, were commissioned by King D. João IV in the mid-17th century. The present walls of this remarkable military monument were built on those of the former fort, built by D. Sebastião in 1577, and the modifications introduced by John IV correspond to the beginning of the fishing force for Nazareth. This viewpoint offers great panoramic views, with Salgado Beach to the east, Nazaré village to the north and North beach to the west.
