Nowadays, this charming town, sheltered by the majestic Popocatépetl & Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes, is popular with weekend visitors from Mexico City, Puebla & Morelos that come to enjoy its mountainous scenery, eat local delicacies, visit the Sanctuary of the Señor del Sacromonte & other attractions. The area receives many visitors during the annual Carnival/Festival del Señor del Sacromonte, which extends over the week containing Ash Wednesday and is considered to be one of the most important festivals in Mexico State.

The wrapping varies and can be made of totomoxtli (corn leaf), metl (maguey skin) or simple aluminum foil.
Other typical stews of the region that are prepared according to the season are: chileatole, a drink made with corn, epazote and chile; the colorín cakes, made with colorín flowers, flour and eggs, are accompanied by a green sauce; the pipián with mushrooms and the tlacoyos of blue or white corn filled with broad beans or beans, the mole, the barbecue, the chiles en nogada, the Christmas salad, the bread of the dead and the jumble of Lent.
