    The São Vicente Caves were formed 890 thousand years ago by a volcanic eruption, which occurred in Paul da Serra. The outer part of the lava that was exposed to lower temperatures, solidified rapidly while the inside remained liquid with lots of gases, forming a series of lava tubes.
    The caves were first reported in 1885 by locals, and opened to the public on October 1st, 1996. They were among the first volcanic caves to be opened to the public in Portugal and may be visited by following an underground route running for over 1,000 m. The height of the caves varies between 5 and 6 metres.
    At the end of the tour, visitors may access the Volcano Centre, a pavilion offering a range of educational and entertaining audiovisual displays that recreate the geological evolution of the caves, the eruption of a volcano and even a simulation of the birth of the Madeira Islands

    Ponta Delgada is a small village on the northern coast of Madeira Island, located in the district of São Vicente with beautiful scenery of the mountains and sea. Overlooking the cliff you may admire a charming village, the local church by the sea and its new pool complex. Here you may also find a house museum belonging to the famous teacher, writer and journalist Horácio Bento de Gouveia with a display of his published works and antiques.
    This rural village is also able to produce many of the freshest agricultural products and also traditional handicrafts, embroidery and wickerwork.
    Ponta Delgada is proud of its mother church; the Imaculado Coração de Maria built in the 15th century, famous for its big Religious festival of Senhor Bom Jesus which takes place in the first weekend of September, bringing thousands of visitors and pilgrims from all parts of the island.

    Arco de São Jorge is a unique village by the seaside, surrounded by mountains and vineyards, located in the northeast of the island with a population of 520 inhabitants. Besides São Jorge village, the land of Arco de São Jorge is also very fertile and able to host many types of agricultural product due to its microclimate.
    Its first settlers were known to be from the Algarve and Minho, Portugal. Originally this small village was once part of São Jorge then on December 28, 1676 Arco de São Jorge became a civil parish, deriving its name from the surrounding arc shaped mountains. While visiting the village, make sure you drop by Quinta do Arco Rosarium garden with its large collection of roses from Portugal

    Porto da Cruz ‘Port of the Cross’ a charming village located on the northeast coast of the island. Named after the cross that was placed on the shore to indicate the port for the Portuguese explorers. One of the many agricultural products here was sugar cane and today the processing factory is still in full operation mainly producing rum and honey molasses as it has since 1927. Besides sugar cane it also produces a dry red wine known as ‘vinho seco’. This has become very popular and every year a grape festival is hosted in the town.
    This place is also famous for surfing; great for swimming and nature walks enjoy the many paths available through out the beautiful landscapes of Porto da Cruz. Furthermore, between Porto da Cruz and Faial there is a place called Penha D'Aguia ‘Eagle's Rock’ a unique rock formation that rises to an altitude of 580 metres, accessible through a steep pathway offering fascinating panoramic views over the sea and its surroundings

    The Pico do Facho Viewpoint is located north of Machico, before reaching the tunnel of Caniçal, along a path that leads up to the top of Pico do Facho. Historically, this was the place where huge bonfires were lit in order to alert the population of approaching enemy ships. From here, the panoramic views of the Machico valley can be admired; they extend up to the island’s central peaks, including Ponta de São Lourenço

    The origin of the name of this parish, which is now the county seat and city, resulted from of a dry tree trunk with two branches in the shape of a cross, found in the laurel forest on the south coast.
    In addition to the famous Praia das Palmeiras, of rock formation and with two pools, you can find in this town a new bathing complex near Ribeira da Boaventura with swimming pools, solariums, spas and an eating area. Between the nautical area and the pools, there is a small protected bay, which allows safe access to the sea. For open sea lovers, there is a pier beach support near the bank at the mouth of the river.
    In this locality there is a fun water park, Aquaparque, which is located next to the Ribeira da Boaventura Bathing Complex. This infrastructure, with capacity for more than a thousand people, has five natural water slides, four fast slides, two swimming pools, one for children
