The entire town and lake of Ohrid are UNESCO World Heritage sites, for their ancient cultural significance and natural beauty. Ohrid - Охрид is a city in Macedonia and the seat of the It is the largest city on Lake Ohrid and the 8 in the country, with over 42,000 inhabitants as of 2002. Ohrid once had 365 churches, one for each day of the year, and has been referred to as a "Jerusalem of the Balkans". The city is rich in picturesque houses and monuments, and tourism is predominant. It is located southwest of Skopje, west of Resen and Bitola. In 1979 and in 1980 respectively, Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were accepted as Cultural and Natural World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Ohrid is one of only 28 sites that are part of UNESCO's World Heritage that are Cultural as well as Natural sites. We are seeing the oldest fortres in Ohrid and one of the biggest churches in Ohrid St. Pantelejmon. Sources say that Saint Clement was not satisfied with the size of the church and therefore built a new one over it and assigned Saint Panteleimon as its patron saint Saint Clement used his newly created church as a liturgical building and a place for teaching his disciples his revision of the Glagolitic alphabet, known as the Cyrillic script. Clement personally built a crypt inside the church in which he was buried after his death in 916; his tomb still exists today. In the 15th century, Ottoman Turks converted the church into a mosque but during the beginning of the 16th century allowed ruined monasteries and churches to be restored, therefore, so was Saint Clement's church. Continuing the walk at the horizon we will see the stoning monastery St.Kaneo one of the most pictured monastery in Ohrid the perfect place for one of the most peaceful beauty’s. Walking in the city we are seeing the ancient theater in Ohrid. During Roman times, the theater was also used for gladiator fights. However, since the theater was also a site of executions of Christians by the Romans, it rapidly turned to a highly disliked site by the locals. In fact, as a result of this dislike, the theater was abandoned and buried by the locals after the demise of the Roman Empire. This allowed for most of the structure to be well preserved, only to be uncovered accidentally in the 1980s. Continue the step from the theatre and you will see the unique and stunning houses in Ohrid that are well known in the architecture themes. Hold a minute and at your right side you will see the stunning lake and the boat port in Ohrid. Outrageous, priceless, unique beauty will hold your breath when we arrive at St. Naum. The Monastery of St. Naum is a magnificently massive complex, located 29 kilometers south of Ohrid, on a plateau close to the Albanian border. It is, without any doubt, one of the most attractive Macedonian tourist destinations. With a wonderful surrounding area, the St. Naum Monastery is a popular day trip where you can enjoy both nature and religious heritage. Known as a living saint for the many miracles he performed, St. Naum of Ohrid died in 910, at the old age of 80, and was buried inside the monastery. Myths and legends say that you can bring your ear to the stone coffin and hear his heartbeat even today. The tourist guides, on the other hand, will tell you that it’s the water of Lake Ohrid crushing against the rock formation down below. After this stunting beauty we are tasting one of a kind fish Pastrmka that is traditional food in Ohrid. After the lunch we are coming back in Ohrid and walking through the old bazaar, the oldest tree chinarot will hold your breath with the story behind.
