    The Talampaya National Park is located on the west center of the province of La Rioja, in the vicinity (60 km) of Villa Unión and was created on July 10, 1997, by law 24,846.     It is a 63,000-hectare Sanjuanino Provincial Park, more commonly known as the "Valley of the Moon", which together with Talampaya form a single continuous unit, a unique Ischigualasto-Talampaya site where it is appreciated by surfacing the sediments of the Triasic period full. The natural limit between both parks and at the same time interprovincial limit, is the top of the low mountainous formation called Sierra Morada which falls steeply to the west, so seen from the Valley of the moon is called "The red canyons."
