The centre of Florianópolis, with its alleys, rows of typical houses, churches and museums, contains many examples of colonial architecture. Among these are the former government palace, nowadays the Cruz e Souza Museum (which took its name from the famous poet from Santa Catarina who formed the symbolist movement) and the Public Market built in 1898 which sells food and local handicrafts under the shade of a one-hundred-year-old fig tree. Close to the centre is the house where Victor Meirelles was born, one of the authors who devised the first mass spoken in Brazil. The building is registered by the Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage and houses the Victor Meirelles Museum.

Stop At: Catedral Metropolitana de Florianopolis, Rua Padre Miguelinho 55, Florianopolis, State of Santa Catarina 88010-550 Brazil

The Our Lady of Exile and St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral[1] (Portuguese: Catedral Metropolitana Nossa Senhora do Desterro e Santa Catarina de Alexandria) Also Florianópolis Cathedral[2] It is a Catholic church dedicated to Our Lady of the Exile, which functions as the cathedral of the archdiocese of Florianópolis, since its creation on March 19, 1908. The building is protected by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute of Brazil.[3]

The definitive colonization of Florianópolis began in 1673. In 1679, Francisco Dias Velho required the legal title of the lands, beginning the construction of a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was small and built with limestone. Inside it, the founder of Desterro (today Florianópolis) was assassinated. In 1908 it was elevated to the condition of Cathedral.

Stop At: Lagoa da Conceicao, Lagoa da Conceicao, Florianopolis, State of Santa Catarina

Lagoa da Conceição (Portuguese: [laˈɡo.ɐ dɐ kõsejˈsɐ̃w]) is a district located next to a large lagoon of the same name near the center of Florianópolis, capital city of the state of Santa Catarina, located in the south of Brazil.

Lagoa da Conceição combines beaches, dunes, hills, and the biggest lagoon on the island. With such diversity, it has become the most well-known tourist spot in Florianopolis. The area has a small town center with a medical clinic, post office, pharmacies, supermarkets, boutique stores and specialty shops. The town gets particularly crowded during the Brazilian summer vacation, i.e. the months of January and February.

Stop At: Joaquina Beach, Florianopolis, State of Santa Catarina Brazil

There used to be a proper airport which was inaugurated in 1927 by the French Compagnie générale aéropostale.[2] Aéropostale's planes used to land on it. It is plausible that the famous French pilot and writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, author of the classic The Little Prince, would have made a few landings on the area after the death of the pilot Élysée Négrin in 1930, while he was in charge of controlling the flights of Aeroposta Argentina.[3]

There are many houses to rent as well as pousadas (hostels), bars and simple restaurants. From any point along its 11.5 kilometres (7.1 mi) length, the island of Campeche can be seen.
