Stop At: Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park, Tasmania Australia
Our professional guide in our clean comfortable mini bus will collect you from your Cradle Mountain accommodation or the Cradle Mountain National Park visitor centre around 10mins before the scheduled departure time.
We take the short 15min drive into the Cradle Mountain National Park to Dove lake carpark where we will start our walk for the next 2.5 to 3 hours.
Leaving the carpark, we head clockwise on the trail first leading to Glacier rock. These rocks have left us remnants of the movement from a glacier during the last ice age. On the clearest of day to views from here are tremendous….
We keep walking around the trail to various view points and points of interest where our guide will stop and discuss the plants, flowers and the various nomenclature of the area. We will see Pandani, Button grass, Boronia, Waratah and different species of pine trees amongst many other plants and trees.
Along the walk at the southern end of Dove lake we enter the Ballroom forest, a cool temperate rainforest, packed with ancient myrtle beech trees covered in moss from the ground up. The Ballroom is reminiscent of a grand ancient cathedral.
After leaving the Ballroom we hug the western shore of Dove Lake and short climb that brings in heightened views for the area before we descend into the King billy pine Boat shed which was constructed by a ranger of Cradle Mountain National Park in 1940. From this point at the boat shed the views across the lake to Cradle Mountain are very special, and time can be spent here taking in the views.
A short stroll from the boat shed brings us back to the start of the walk at Dove Lake carpark. From here our guide will drop you back to your hotel or visitor centre.
