The Soča or Isonzo is a 138-kilometer long river that flows through western Slovenia and northeastern Italy. An Alpine river in character, its source lies in the Trenta Valley in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia, at an elevation of 876 meters.

Bovec is a mountain town in northwestern Slovenia. It’s surrounded by the peaks of the Julian Alps, such as Kanin and Krn. The mountains, forests and glacial lakes of Triglav National Park are to the east. The turquoise Soča River, with its rapids, is popular for water sports. The Walk of Peace trail takes in various sights linked to WWI, such as the Ravelnik Open-Air Museum, which preserves trenches and bunkers.

The Vršič Pass, with an elevation of 1,611 metres, is a high mountain pass across the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia. It is the highest pass in Slovenia, as well as the highest in the Eastern Julian Alps. It connects Upper Carniola with the Trenta Valley in the Slovene Littoral.

Triglav, with an elevation of 2,863.65 meters, is the highest mountain in Slovenia and the highest peak of the Julian Alps. The mountain is the pre-eminent symbol of the Slovene nation. It is the centerpiece of Triglav National Park, Slovenia's only national park.

Stop At: Lake Jasna, Kranjska Gora Slovenia

Kranjska Gora is an alpine resort in northwestern Slovenia, near the mountains and glacial lakes of Triglav National Park. In town, the 17th-century Liznjek House exhibits period furniture and tools. To the west, Zelenci Nature Reserve shelters nesting birds. South of here, Nordic Center Planica is a hub for winter sports. Near the Vršič Pass, the wooden Russian Chapel was built by prisoners during WWI.
