Stop At: Bell House - Camp John Hay, Historical Precinct, Camp John Hay, Baguio, Luzon 2600 Philippines

The United States 48th Infantry Unit under Captain Robert Rudd established Hill Station in the current site of Camp John Hay in 1900 during the Philippine-American war. The site is referred to the locals, the Ibalois as "Kafagway" and is owned by Ibaloi leader, Mateo Cariño. 213 hectares (530 acres) of the land was then designated as "Camp John Hay", a military reservation for American soldiers, in October 1903 when US President Theodore Roosevelt signed a presidential order. American military personnel were given a place to refuge from the relative hotter temperature of the lowlands. In December 1941, Japanese warplanes dropped 72 bombs over the main gate of the camp during the onset of World War II in the Philippines. Camp John Hay served as an internment camp of the Imperial Japanese forces as well as the headquarters of General Tomoyuki Yamashita during the Japanese occupation period. When the Japanese forces in the archipelago capitulated, Yamashita surrendered to the Allied forces at Camp John Hay, specifically at the High Commissioner's residence which was later renamed as the Ambassador’s Residence.

    Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Historical Core - Camp John Hay, Baguio, Luzon 2600 Philippines

Camp John Hay has a vast land area which means lots of activities you can enjoy. You can shop, eat at restaurants, mingle with the butterflies at the Butterfly Sanctuary, ride a horse around the area, try ziplining at the Tree Top Adventure, play golf, go back in history at Historical Core, and many more.

For our short trip at Camp John Hay, I told my mom that we visit the Historical Core since it's one of the most visited areas by the tourists going to Camp John Hay. We were almost lost finding the Historical Core because it's located on top of a hill. After a few walks passing through a bazaar (with no customers, just the sellers keeping themselves busy), we were able to find the entrance to Historical Core. And I would say there were very few visitors that time. You would rarely meet other tourists which makes you feel like you are alone.

    Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Burnham Park, Abad Santos Drive, Baguio, Luzon 2600 Philippines

Burnham Park is probably the most welcoming place in Baguio, a place where different types of people go to relax, have fun, and bond with friends—recreation at no cost. It was designed in the early 1900s by an American architect, Daniel Burnham, whom it was named after. Thanks to his brilliant city planning, residents and visitors of Baguio have since enjoyed a potpourri of activities in this 32-hectare public park.

    Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Baguio Museum, DOT-PTA Complex, Governor Pack Rd, Baguio, Luzon Philippines

Baguio Museum stands for, upholds, and embodies the cultural and historical heritage of Baguio City. Inspired by Ifugao architecture, the museum is made of stone and wood featuring a striking pyramid roof and two huge concrete poles at the stair entrance that resembles a traditional Ifugao home with an elevated floor supported by posts.

This time-honored museum was built in 1975 at the corner of Governor Pack Road and Harrison Road. It was hit by a major earthquake in 1990 but was rebuilt after a decade to continue its purpose.
