All Things Maasai (2 days)

All Things Maasai is a tour in the Magical Kenya Signature Experience Collection – curated, unique, authentic and exceptional once-in-a-lifetime Kenyan travel experiences accredited by the Kenya Tourist Board (KTB)

On this One Horizon 2-day cultural safari you visit a traditional Maasai village to engage with these amazing people who make up the colourful tapestry of tribal life in Kenya. This interactive experience allows you to meet the infamous warriors, village elders and Maasai women, and take part in some of their daily activities to learn about their traditional way of life that has not changed for centuries. You will be invited to become an honorary member of the Maasai, and learn how to throw a warrior’s spear, create decorative jewellery, and join in their vibrant singing and dancing. It’s a wonderful opportunity to gain an insight into Kenyan rural life and share and listen to stories and beliefs with individuals from a completely different world and culture.

Ultimate Eco-Tour With Village Elder Daniel
As you join the Masai on their daily cattle drive, Daniel will explain how they manage their precious land, as their ancestors have done for centuries. We’ll then explore the wonders and magic of the landscape as Daniel introduces you to native herbs and ancient medicines that have helped the Masai survive.

Masai Warriors Share Skills & Insights
Over a cup of tea, Masai warriors share cultural insights with you, including explaining family structures in Masai society. They’ll also show you how to throw a spear and climb an acacia tree in mere seconds!

    Manyatta Building With Masai Women
After time with the warriors, we join the women to help them lay the foundations and weave the frame for a new manyatta.

    One Horizon Team Dinner
We always have a lot of fun at dinner and it’s a great opportunity to download all your questions from your day with the Masai and prepare for tomorrow’s venture back to Masai country.

Learn How To Dance Like The Masai
Masai warrior Risa will lead you in a Masai dance class and the whole village gets involved. It’s a lot of fun, also a little energetic so you’ll be ready for what’s next – a traditional Masai lunch.

Learn How To Cook Like The Masai
Over song and shared stories the Masai women share their recipes and you’re welcome to help them prepare the meal – they have a way with the herbs from the valley you explored yesterday morning and we think you’ll find the lunch you prepare together is simply delicious.

    More Manyatta Building
Then it’s back to yesterday’s manyatta building – today you’ll join the villagers as they clad the frame with mud. The reward for your efforts is the satisfaction of standing shoulder to shoulder with them and playing your part in creating a new home for a Masai family.

    Make Masai Jewellery
Jewellery making is the last item on your All Things Masai agenda. It brings more stories and more cultural exchange as the Masai guide you in making your own bracelet, headpiece or necklace to take away as a special memento of your time spent with them.
