Day 1: Yerevan

Day 2: Yerevan - Ejmiatsin - Zvarnots - Yerevan
Stop At: Yerevan, Yerevan
You’ll begin by getting to know Armenia’s charming capital, Yerevan. This morning’s tour will encompass the main sights in the city, including the impressive Singing Fountains in Republic Square and the fascinating market stalls of the Vernissage with their mixture of objets d’art, Soviet memorabilia and local crafts.

Stop At: Matenadaran - The Museum of Ancient Manuscripts, 53 Mesrop Mashots Avenue Kentron District, Yerevan 0009 Armenia
Also on the programme is a visit to the Matenadaran where ancient manuscripts are housed.

Stop At: The Churches of Echmiatsin and the Archaeological Site of Zvartnots, Manushyan St, Vagharshapat Armenia
Later, you’ll drive out to Echmiadzin where you’ll be able to see Armenia’s oldest cathedral and on to Zvartnots, home to a ruined 7th century cathedral listed by UNESCO. Return to Yerevan in time for dinner. Overnight in Yerevan.

Day 3: Yerevan - Garni - Geghard - Yerevan
Stop At: Garni Temple, Geghard Monastery Road H3, Garni Armenia
Garni and Geghard are usually combined into one excursion as they are geographically close together; however, in style they couldn’t be more different. Garni is the more unusual, an Ionic Greco-Roman pagan temple initially constructed in the 1st century AD but restored in the 1970s after a 17th century earthquake left it in ruins.

Stop At: The Monastery of Geghard, Near Goght Village, Geghard Armenia
Geghard is a UNESCO-listed monastery which was founded by Gregory the Illuminator in the 4th century. What you see today dates from the early 14th century but the spring that you can visit is the original sacred spring in Gregory’s cave. After our visits, we’ll drive back to the city and the rest of the day is yours to explore on your own.

Day 4: Yerevan - Khor Virap - Noravank - Areni - Yerevan
Stop At: Khor Virap, Highway 11 - Near the village of Pokr Vedi Artashat, Lusarat 0612 Armenia
Khor Virap’s location is pretty special - located very close to the Turkish border you often have wonderful views of Mount Ararat in the distance. The monastery is photogenic in its own right and fascinating to inspect close up.

Stop At: Noravank Monastery, NoravankMonastery Road Amaghu Valley, Areni 3604 Armenia
Noravank Monastery’s location if anything is even more fantastic. Approach along a narrow canyon and this religious complex appears, famed for its carvings of Jesus with Peter and Paul. Steep steps run up the outside of the church above its door and the views from the first floor, if you can handle the ascent, are incredible.

Stop At: Areni Wine Factory, Areni Armenia
Last stop today is at Areni, where we’ll taste local wines at a popular winery.

Day 5: Yerevan - Sevan - Dilijan
Stop At: Monastery Sevanavank, next the Holy Mother of God Church, Sevan Armenia
We’ll take an excursion out of Yerevan to visit Armenia’s most beautiful lake. Sevanavank Monastery is located on a hilltop and from it there are breathtaking panoramic views of the lake. In the churchyard, take a look at the intricately carved stones, known as khatchkhars.

Stop At: Local Lore Museum and Art Gallery of Dilijan, Myasnikyan St. 28, Dilijan 3901 Armenia
We’ll drive to the nearby spa town of Dilijan, where we can visit the Geological Museum and Art Gallery which displays archaeological pieces and works of art. There are also plenty of craft workshops in town where you can pick up a souvenir or two.

Day 6: Dilijan - Haghpat - Sanahin - Lermontovo - Goshavank - Dilijan
Stop At: Haghpat Monastery, next to Saint Nshan Church, Haghpat 1722 Armenia
Haghpat is a mediaeval complex largely completed in the 9th century. Grey stone is topped with terracotta roof tiles, but it’s the floor that’s most interesting - the holes in it were originally designed to keep wine cool.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Monastery of Sanahin, Alaverdi 1705 Armenia
Sanahin is Haghpat’s twin; its name means “older than that one”. The floor of the cavernous interior is covered with tombstones, though it’s considered good luck to step on them as it’s thought doing so will free the dead of their sins.

Stop At: Lermontovo, Lermontovo, Lori Province
We’ll head to the village of Lermontovo, named after the Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov, who’s often called "the poet of the Caucasus".
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Goshavank Monastery, 15 km of Dilijan, Gosh Armenia
Our final stop is at the 12th century monastery of Goshavank before we return to Dilijan for dinner.

Day 7: Dilijan - Yerevan

Today, we’ll retrace our steps and return to Yerevan. The drive takes about two hours from Dilijan so there’ll be plenty of time today to fit in some independent sightseeing.
