In the morning, we will collect you from your hotel in Arusha and take you to the Arusha National Park. The park has an incredible variety of fauna and flora, which cannot fail to impress. Hollywood also chose this region to film the movie “Hatari” in which Hardy Kruger starred alongside the legendary John Wayne. Your day trip will include a visit to the Ngurdo Crater. Buffaloes, waterbucks, giraffes, warthogs, zebras and baboons can be seen all year round as well as many different bird species. At the Momella Gate, an armed ranger will be waiting for you to accompany you on your walking safari that will give you the chance to experience the wildlife up-close. Only a few other national parks in Tanzania give you such an opportunity and it is something that should not be missed. Lunch will be taken at a picnic place and in the afternoon, you will continue your tour in the safari vehicle through the Arusha National Park. After plenty of time allocated for you to observe the wildlife, we will take you back to Arusha.

Take an afternoon walk or relax and enjoy the view. The Monduli Mountains are known for their natural beauty and breath taking cultural appeal, situated approximately 2 hours drive from Arusha. The peaks of these mountains are forested with cedar trees and other lush vegetation, and on the lower slopes are the dry thorn bushes which spread down to the Rift Valley floor. Our camp overlooks the Rift Valley with spectacular views of the Kilimanjaro, Meru, Longido, Gelai, Kitumbaine and Ol Donyo Lengai (which is known as the “mountain of God” in the Maasai language). It is from here that you can explore the area, going down to the Rift Valley Floor for game trekking on foot or walk high into the Monduli range. Experiences the rich culture of the Maasai with our very own Maasai trekking guides (whose home it is). They will ensure that you not only get a warm welcome, but you get the true taste of adventure and a genuine cultural experience! See their traditional way of life; be invited into a Maasai home, even trade goods if you feel so inclined! In the morning, enjoy more trekking in Monduli, after lunch drive to Lake Eyasi for dinner and overnight at Hadzabe camp(Bushmans camp) Their language is similar to the click languages of other bushmen further south in the Kalahari. Clients are often invited to come and see their simple bush homes where the tree canopy alone or a cave provides them with shelter. They live entirely off the land as they have been for centuries. A few hours spent amongst the Bushmen makes the apparently inhospitable bush country come to life. To watch them hunt is truly unique experience – from the age of 4 and up – they stealthily spot then creep up on their prey skillfully killing it. We make camp at the Lake Eyasi Campsite and spend the night under the canvas falling asleep to the unfamiliar sounds of the bush.

    Day 5: Mto wa Mbu

Stop At: Mto wa Mbu, Mto wa Mbu, Lake Manyara National Park, Arusha Region
Waliking to the lakes, after lunch drive to Mto wa Mbu for dinner and overnight at Panorama camp (situated on the great rift valley
Mto wa Mbu is situated on the way from Arusha to the National Parks in Northern Tanzania, just at the foot of the Rift Valley. Mto wa Mbu is the entry port to Lake Manyara National Park; the park with the tree-climbing lions and many birds named after the long drawn lake that is fed by the water flowing down from the escarpment of the Rift Valley. It also conveniently on the way to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti which makes it an ideal rest place for most safari travelers.

The area around Mto wa Mbu was rather dry and hardly populated till the early fifties, when the first steps were made to irrigate the area. Within a few years hundreds of acres of newly cultivable land were created. The news of the fertile lands spread rapidly through the country and from all remote corners people came to try their luck. Fruits and vegetables from all over Tanzania were introduced in the area. Within a few decades the dry and empty plains were turned into a green semi-urban centre.

The rapid population growth also turned Mto wa Mbu in a melting pot of cultures. Nowhere else in Tanzania have so many different tribes gathered in such a small area. Many people have still kept their traditions. The various traditional modes of production stand as an example of this cultural diversity. In the little town Chagga people are producing their banana beer, a farmer from Kigoma makes palm oil from palm trees that he brought from the shores of Lake Tanganyika, the Sandawe are making bow and arrow for hunting on smaller game and the Rangi are using the papyrus from the lakes and rivers for making the most beautiful mats and baskets. On the surrounding plains Maasai families live in traditional bomas and the warriors wander with their cattle looking for pasture and water.
