  • Day 1: Colombo/Negombo - Kandy

    Stop At: Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya Road, Peradeniya 20400 Sri Lanka
    Royal Botanical Garden, Peradeniya is situated about 5.5 km to the west from the city of Kandy in the Central Province of Sri Lanka and attracts more than 2 million visitors annually. The gardens is renowned for its collection of a variety of orchids. It includes more than 4000 species of plants, including of orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. Attached to it is the National Herbarium of Sri Lanka. The total area of the botanical garden is 147 acres (0.59 km2), at 460 meters above sea level, and with a 200-day annual rainfall.

    Stop At: Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
    Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka which houses the scared tooth relic of Buddha. It is located in the royal palace complex. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple. Monks of the two chapters of Malwatte and Asgiriya conduct daily worship in the inner chamber of the temple. Rituals are performed three times daily: at dawn, at noon and in the evenings.

    Kandy Lake which is situated next to the sacred Temple of Tooth, is a sight to behold. It is an artificial lake built by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1807. The lake, also called Kiri Muhuda or Sea of the Milk, is situated in the heart of the city, Kandy. A leisurely stroll around it, with a few stops on the lakeside seats, is a pleasant way to spend a few hours.

    The Kandy Lake Club is the most popular place to go for a cultural dance show. This venue brings all of the traditional types of Sri Lankan dance to one stage. Be escorted to a performance of the traditional Kandyan dance, accompanied by tumultuous drumming. Dances include the cobra dance, mask dance, the Ginisila, showing power over fire. The entire frenetic and colorful spectacle climaxes with the amazing fire-walking act.

    Day 2: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

    Stop At: Post Office Nuwara Eliya, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
    The Nuwara Eliya Post Office is located in the center of Nuwara Eliya and is one of the oldest post offices in Sri Lanka. The red brick exterior is hard to be missed while one is on the streets of Nuwara Eliya. Built in Tudor style, the post office has a distinctive edge and stands as a remnant of the old world Ceylon. A clock tower spirals from one side of the building. In the year 2012, the upper floor, which served as the living quarters of the post master, was converted into tourist accommodation. There were plans to sell this building to a private company with the intention of converting it to a fully fledged hotel. But the postal workers stood firmly against the decision and so the plan was thwarted. This legendary building was depicted on a stamp issued by Sri Lanka Post in the year 1990 too.

    The Victoria Park of Nuwara Eliya was said to have been named to honor the 60th Jubilee Coronation of Queen Victoria in the year 1897 and considered as a place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. The park was originally consumed as a research field of Hakgala Botanical Gardens. Spanning over 27 acres, the park has many species of trees of which most are foreign adding distinct beauty to the landscape. It is a great destination for bird watching since the serenity of the place gives pleasurable opportunity to observe numerous rare birds such as Indian Pitta, the Kashmir Flyer and the Indian Blue Robin. With ample space for children to run around and play, the park is an ideal area for families to spend time at leisure. The park gets colour coming alive with the blossoming of flowers during the seasonal month of April.

    Stop At: Gregory Lake, Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
    Lake Gregory, sometimes also called Gregory Lake or Gregory Reservoir, is a reservoir in the heart of Nuwara Eliya. The lake was created in 1873 by the British era Governor at the time, Sir William Gregory, supposedly for the purpose of providing electricity. However the lake was mainly used for leisure and recreation after it was built. Currently, Gregory Lake is the most prominent attraction in the area and was used a place to relax by many visitors. Now visitors can follow the ancient British era tradition of relaxing picnics on the shore of the lake, or more modern leisure activities such as rides in swan shaped paddle boats, normal boatrides, pony rides along the shore, water walking balls, watersports such as jetskis, windsurfing and etc.

    Day 3: Nuwara Eliya - Sigiriya - Colombo/Negombo

    Stop At: Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
    Sigiriya, site in central Sri Lanka consisting of the ruins of an ancient stronghold that was built in the late 5th century ce on a remarkable monolithic rock pillar. It has also been named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Apart from its gigantic size, Sigiriya’s wonder is in its advanced irrigation systems said to be well ahead of its time. engineers from around the globe are still bewildered by the existence of such advanced technology in such ancient times. The fortress is further enhanced by its beautiful water gardens, frescos of Sigiriya Damsels, the graffiti Mirror Wall and the giant paws of a lion carved into the rock at the entrance to the final ascent to the top.

    Stop At: Dambulla Cave Temple, Jaffna Hwy, Habarana 50150 Sri Lanka
    Visit the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in the country, the Golden Temple of Dambulla, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This magnificent overhanging rock temple towering 600 ft high and close to 2000 ft in length was where King Vattagamini Abaya (King Valagamba) took refuge from foreign invasion in the first century BCE, who out of gratitude for having provided refuge turned the cave complex into a rock temple. There are 80 documented Caves in the vicinity of the Golden Temple of which five possess the most appeal with its beautiful archeological features; traditional mural paintings on the ceiling and walls depicting the life of the Buddha along with 157 Buddha statues of varying sizes amongst other interesting artifacts.
