Day 1: Arrival at the Edge of the Arctic - Seakayaking on the Arctic Ocean

Velkomin and welcome in Sandur, our historical Guest House at the Edge of The Arctic, located at the Arctic Costal Way.
The guest house provides all different types of rooms starting from a single bed room up to a double bed duplex room with a private bathroom!
All rooms are newly renovated and in flawless conditions.
With our rooms we are giving you the chance to open all the nature beauty's in a less packed area without losing any comfort at all.
Our friendly staff will give you a warm welcome at the edge of the Arctic and provide you with all the necessary information for the coming days.

Check into your freshly made up room and take a short break. Before you take our sea kayaks out onto the Atlantic strengthen yourselv with our daily special during lunch times at our restaurant.

Kayaking in in the surrounds of Þórshöfn and Langanes. A unique experience!
Beginner or expert, guided tour or solo adventure. No matter what previous knowledge you already have, we will provide kayak tours in and in the surrounds of Þórshöfn and Langanes.
After you have familiarized yourself with the kayak in the harbour basin, you follow our guide out to sea.
Depending on the weather and wind situation we will heading to the south till the farm of Sætun and back or along the low cliffs to the north.
While we paddle along the coast, we see different sea birds, fish and if we are lucky also some seals. After our return to the harbour, you have the possibility for taking photos and videos from a unique perspective in the calm harbour water.
Itenrary Kayaking:
Theoretical and practical introduction
To guarantee you a safe experience, one of our experienced guides will give you a short briefing on how to use our sea kayaks.
He will give you a short briefing how to behave in different situations on the Atlantic Ocean, adapted to the prevailing wind and weather situation.
Whether you are a first time kayaker or already an expert, we will give you time to familiarise yourself with our kayaks in the sheltered harbour basin. While getting familiar with the Kayaks and the sea, enjoy being on the water, the view of Thorshöfn, the small fisherboats and some sea birds from a different perspective.
Kayaking in the Artic Sea
Together with one of our guides or alone, we leave the harbour basin and slowly feel our way into the Atlantic Ocean.
The waves become more and more and we learn to steer the kayak on the open sea.
Depending on the weather and wind situation we will heading to the south till the farm of Sætun and back or along the low cliffs to the north. While we paddle along the coast, we see different sea birds, fish and if we are lucky also some seals.
Closing
After some time at sea, we make our way back to the harbour.
Here are the possibilities for taking photos and videos from a unique perspective in the calm harbour water.
After our return there is the possibility to relax on our terrace with a cool drink and a local dinner and talk about your experiences and plan your further journey.

In the evening a dinner with local specialities awaits you in our restaruant Báran Bar & Restaurant.
You can enjoy your meal in our cozy dining room, which overlooks the harbour and fishing boats, or on our deck, which is available weather permitting.
Our chefs are specializes in preparing fresh local food using meat and vegetables from the surrounding farms, and local fish from local boats.

Day 2: Explore the Edge of the Arctic by Jeep

The characteristics of the roads on Langanes
Before going off-road, we will properly hand over the jeep to you and instruct you on how to drive the four-wheel drive vehicle.
The further you approach the Edge of the Arctic, the more unpredictable the weather can be. We will inform you shortly before departure about the weather conditions on the peninsula. Furthermore, we provide you with information about the charakteristics of the peninsula and give you some advice, as well as worth seeing destinations on the peninsula, which you can head for, for your upcoming excursion.

Let's go on an adventure!
Now you're on your own. Explore the 40km long peninsula at your own pace.
Familiarise yourself with the road and enjoy the view of the seemingly endless expanse of the North Atlantic.
Watch thousands of birds taking shelter in the plunging cliffs and watch out for the sheep that roam free all over the peninsula.
Discover weather-destroyed houses, which are spooky in the solitude and enjoy the endless expanse and peace in the nature at the Edge of the Arctic.
Experience the feeling of driving around on off-road tracks with a four-wheel drive and take a break where you like it best.
Be sure to stop at one of the most beautiful bird cliffs in Iceland, on your way to the top of the headland. On the basalt rock Karl "Skoruvíbjarg" nest thousands of gannets and thousands of Arctic terns. From the newly built viewing platform, you have an excellent view. At the right time of the year you can see many puffins in the cliffs and watch them flying over the Atlantic Ocean.
Continuing northwards, you will pass an abandoned fishing village until you reach the northern tip, where the Fontur lighthouse is located.
On your way back to civilization, you can make a detour to the old US American radar station. Up there, besides strong winds, a breathtaking view of the North Atlantic awaits you, which you will not forget so quickly.
In the end you decide where you want to go and what you want to experience, because the feeling of freedom at the edge of the Arctic, we want to offer you on all levels.

All good things come to an end...
After an exciting day in the remote area of Langanes, you will return to the city from where you started with many new impressions.
The car is handed over again and you can tell us about your experiences.
After a long day off road, we invite you to have a local dinner and some cool or warm beverages in our restaurant Báran Bar & Restaurant.

Day 3: Sourrounding and Departure

Visit the small village and take a stroll around. Nearby you can hike to waterfall, with a stunning view on the village and the bay. Also you can drive out of the village and visit stunning nature. We will be pleased to provide you with insider tips and things to do on your departure day at the Edge of the Arctic.
