The Nyero rock paintings are located in Eastern Uganda in Kumi District, 8 km west of kumi town ,about 250 km from the capital city Kampala. The Nyero rock paintings are among the most important rock art in Uganda. There is a lot of history hidden in the east of Uganda that you would probably want to explore. The 3 rock shelters in kumi district contain rock paintings that date centuries of years back probably could have been written in the Stone Age era.
The famous nyero rock paintings are claimed to have been structured by the very early people who settled in the area. Some sources claims the extinct Batwa clan that currently resides South East of Uganda could be having roots in this area. This was confirmed by several archaeologists who made several comparisons of the prehistoric rock art. Kumi District is mainly occupied by the Itesots at the moment. it's a must do activity if you are looking for the historical sites in Uganda.
